Youth employment opportunities shine bright this summer
Summer of 2022 is shaping up to be one of economic opportunity for millions of young people, from teens looking for summer jobs to recent college graduates and young adults seeking entry level positions in a new career. Despite recent upticks of Covid-19 cases in some regions, mask mandates, vaccination rules and other restrictions have largely been dismissed. At the same time, employers are increasing wages and flexibility to lure workers in a tight labor market.

Pandemic relief for foster youth expires, ending aid to thousands
UPDATE: The Supporting Foster Youth and Families through the Pandemic Act expired Sept. 30 without an extension. The results of failing to act, advocates warn, will be an estimated 20,000 young adults kicked out of the foster care system and cut off from aid that they have relied on to weather the financial challenges caused by the pandemic.

New Mexico summer programs for youth include new internships
New Mexico education officials are budgeting up to $10 million in pandemic relief money to create internships. As many as 2,600 students across New Mexico could participate in the internship program, according to the Public Education Department, which announced the program on Tuesday. The department started developing the program last year, and is in the process of hiring up to 150 part-time adult coordinators.
